Thinking is good

M.D. Benoit  at Life's Weirder Than Fiction just gave me the Thinking Blogger Award. One of the nicest things I have heard from some readers is that my blog makes them think. I also like it when my blog makes people laugh, but thinking is good, too. This idea is called a "meme," a word I didn't know until I was first tagged with one. Remember the blog I wrote on 5 things you don't know about me? And then I tagged 5 more bloggers to do the same? That was a meme.

I like the idea of spreading the word about blogs that make me think; in fact, I like it so much that I've been considering writing a post on this subject. Then when I was out reading Life's Weirder Than Fiction and saw I had been awarded, I knew it was time.

I've mentioned more than once that I'm impressed with the quality of writing I've found on blogs, and it's been a pleasant surprise. Even some of the business blogs I read are exceptionally well-written (e-Soup comes to mind). So in the next few weeks I plan to spotlight some of the blogs I most enjoy reading. For now, here are 5 blogs that make me think:

  • Teen Drug Abuse & Addiction -- This one is new, just a few days old. I especially like it because it's honest and important. I have friends who are parents of teens, and their kids all have at least one friend, and maybe more, who is abusing drugs. Parents don't usually publicize the fact that their child is in trouble; this mother reaches out to form a community of other parents who are willing to talk to each other about what they're facing, how they feel, and what they might do to help their children.
  • The Clearing Space -- Karen's writing is lively, interesting, introspective, and sometimes makes me laugh, sometimes makes me cry. She writes on a variety of topics, often sharing her own experience and perspective. I often want to visit her and chat over a cup of tea, but she lives in Australia. Darn!
  • Gipsy Life -- I've just started reading this one, drawn in by the photo-a-day method of finding things to blog about and then letting the thoughts flow. I like how she tells personal stories through photos and words, letting her experiences and thoughts go where they want to. She doesn't censor or judge.
  • Syntax and Soul -- This is  another one I've just started reading. What writer wouldn't be drawn to such a title?

So if you're one of the 5 bloggers I've tagged here and would like to award 5 of your favorite Thinking Blogs, the guidelines are here.

I'll be telling you about more of my favorites, and if you have some blogs you'd like to share, leave a comment.

Thanks!

Verna, you so deserve the Thinking Blogger Award - I just love to visit your site and see what you've written... you really do manage to get to the soul of whatever you're writing about.

Thank you so much for the tag, and the touching thoughts about my blog - I would really love to have a chat at my kitchen table with you, even the thought of that brings a smile to my face and a tear to my eye. Pity we're half a world away!! One day...

(and yes, you've made me laugh as well as think, cry, yearn and so much more... :)
